Like many of the ZEC’s in Quebec, the territory that makes up the zec Pontiac was once comprised of several private hunting and fishing clubs.
In 1978, the Quebec government passed legislation to de-privatize lakes. The Quebec government’s objective is to manage the territory efficiently and not for profit. It was during this time that the Pontiac reserve association was created.
With an average of 1000 member and several hundred occasional users annually, the Pontiac reserve association continues to invest in the development of the Zec Pontiac. This helps to insure that hunters, fisherman wildlife nature lovers will be able to access and enjoy the resources of the territory.
